About Philips Stadion

The Philips Stadion is the home of PSV, one of the most successful football clubs in the Netherlands, and one of the places where you feel the heart of Eindhoven beat. The stadium lies in the Strijp district, in the Philipsdorp area, within walking distance of the city centre.

A club born in a factory

PSV stands for Philips Sport Vereniging, the Philips sports club. It was founded on 31 August 1913 as a club for Philips employees. Football was played on the site even before that: a Philips team played its first match there in 1911, and the first wooden stand was built in 1916. Over the decades the simple sports field grew into a modern stadium with room for about 35,000 spectators, after an expansion completed in 2002.

PSV's greatest triumph came in 1988, when the club won the European Cup by beating Benfica on penalties in the final in Stuttgart, in a season in which PSV also won the Dutch league and cup. The club has won the Dutch league title many times since. PSV fans proudly call themselves "boeren" (farmers), a reference to the club's Brabant roots, as opposed to the big-city clubs from Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Matches

PSV plays its home matches in the Eredivisie, the Dutch top league, and in European competitions. Match dates and kick-off times are set by the league and can still change, especially for matches broadcast on television; PSV's match centre always shows the latest information. Check the calendar above for upcoming home matches.

Tickets

Tickets for PSV home matches are not sold like concert tickets. Many seats go to season-ticket holders and members with a PSV Club Card, and matches against top clubs and Champions League evenings are in very high demand. If you want to go, check the ticket information on psv.nl well in advance, and only buy through official channels.

More than football

The stadium is also used for other events. In November 2026, for example, GLOW returns to the Philips Stadion for the first time since 2019, with The Breathing Collective, the first drone show of the light festival.

Good to know

  • Bags: for the GLOW drone show, only small bags (about A4 size) are allowed and large backpacks are not. Check PSV's bag rules before a match.
  • Accessibility: wheelchair places are available; check with PSV or the event organiser.
  • Match days: the streets around the stadium get busy before and after the match. Walking or cycling from the centre is often the fastest way.

Tips for newcomers

If you have just moved to Eindhoven, sooner or later someone will ask you whether you have been to the Philips Stadion yet. A match is one of the best ways to understand the pride of the city. The atmosphere is loud but generally friendly, and many families go together. If you can't get a ticket, watching the match with PSV fans in a café in the city centre is the next best thing.

Getting there

The Philips Stadion is about a fifteen-minute walk from Eindhoven Centraal. By bike it is even quicker, and there is bike parking around the stadium. On match days, public transport and walking are recommended over the car.
