About workshops in Eindhoven

Learning something new is one of the best ways to feel at home in a new city. In Eindhoven you can join creative workshops, design talks, cooking classes, language exchanges and courses, often in English. On this page you will find all upcoming workshops, talks and hands-on activities in Eindhoven.

Design and making

Eindhoven is a city of makers. During Dutch Design Week in October many designers open their studios and run workshops and talks, and throughout the year studios and creative spaces at Strijp-S and in the city centre offer courses in everything from ceramics to coding. The Design Academy Eindhoven, housed in the Witte Dame, is one of the most influential design schools in the world, and its influence is visible across the city.

Art and museums

The Van Abbemuseum runs workshops, talks and recurring programmes for adults and children, such as a Children's Art Club on Saturday afternoons for ages 6 to 12, a Family Art Club on the first Saturday of the month, and a Newcomers Event for people who have just moved to the region. Many of these activities are free or included in the museum ticket; check the museum website for the details.

Science and technology

As the home of Philips, ASML and the Eindhoven University of Technology, Eindhoven is full of people who love to explain how things work. The Philips Museum organises activities for children during the school holidays, and talks and lectures about technology take place throughout the year.

Language and integration

For internationals, workshops are also a way to meet people and learn Dutch. Libraries, community centres and international organisations offer language cafés and conversation groups. The Holland Expat Center South in Eindhoven organises events for internationals, such as the yearly Winter Market.

Tips for workshops

  • Check the language. We mention the language of a workshop when we know it. When in doubt, ask the organiser; many workshops can switch to English.
  • Register in advance. Workshops usually have limited places and often require registration.
  • Bring what's needed. Some creative workshops ask you to bring your own materials or clothes that may get dirty.
  • Age. For children's workshops, the age range matters: check the event page.

Why join a workshop?

Workshops are one of the easiest ways to meet people outside work. Whether it's a pottery class, a cooking course or a design talk, you share an experience with others who have the same interests. Many international residents say their first Dutch friends came from a course or a club rather than from the office. And in a city full of designers and engineers, you will often find yourself learning from people at the top of their field.
