Midge Ure

The voice of Ultravox and one of the founders of Live Aid comes to Eindhoven. In February 2027, the Scottish musician Midge Ure plays the main hall of the Effenaar, with music from his first solo album in twelve years.

Please note: the Effenaar's event page gives two different dates, Wednesday 24 February and 27 February 2027. We will confirm the date with the venue before this listing goes live; always check the Effenaar website before you buy a ticket.

Who is Midge Ure?

James "Midge" Ure is a Scottish singer, guitarist and songwriter whose career spans more than five decades. He broke through in the 1970s and became best known as the singer and guitarist of Ultravox, the new wave band behind some of the most atmospheric synth-pop of the 1980s. He also briefly played guitar with Thin Lizzy.

Ure's name is linked to one of the most famous charity projects in music history. Together with Bob Geldof he co-founded Band Aid and Live Aid, the projects that raised money for famine relief in Ethiopia in the 1980s and brought together the biggest stars of the time. Since then he has continued a solo career, and now, past seventy, he still makes atmospheric pop.

A new album: A Man of Two Worlds

The tour follows his new album, A Man of Two Worlds, his first solo release in twelve years. The album is made up of two halves: the first eight tracks are instrumental, the next eight are songs with vocals. That structure says a lot about Ure's music, which has always moved between the cinematic, electronic soundscapes of Ultravox and the classic song.

Expect new material alongside songs that many in the audience will know by heart from the Ultravox years and his solo career.
