King King: Scottish Blues Rock

If you like your blues loud, soulful and played with real conviction, the small hall of the Effenaar is the place to be on Sunday 18 October 2026. King King, one of the leading blues rock bands of the United Kingdom, brings its Scottish energy to Eindhoven.

Who are King King?

King King is a blues rock band from Scotland, led by singer and guitarist Alan Nimmo, who is famous on stage for his kilt as much as for his guitar playing. Around him stands a band of experienced musicians: Stevie Nimmo on guitar and vocals, Jonny Dyke on keyboards, Jon Lodge on drums and Zander Greenshields on bass.

The band made its debut with the album Take My Hand and has since built a reputation as one of the strongest live acts in British blues rock. Over the years King King has toured with and shared stages with names such as John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Thunder and Europe. The Effenaar compares their sound with Free, Bad Company and Joe Bonamassa: think heavy riffs, long guitar solos, warm Hammond organ and a voice with plenty of soul.

What to expect

A King King concert is about musicianship and atmosphere. Expect songs that build slowly and then explode, guitar solos that make the audience cheer mid-song, and quieter, soulful moments in between. The small hall of the Effenaar holds about 400 people, which is exactly the right size for this kind of music: close enough to see every note being played, big enough for a proper rock sound.

The audience at blues rock shows tends to be a mix of generations, from long-time fans of classic rock to younger guitar lovers. You don't need to know the songs to enjoy the evening.

A Sunday evening plan

A concert on Sunday evening is a relaxed way to end the weekend. With the show finishing around ten o'clock, you are home in good time for Monday. The weekend of 17 and 18 October is also the opening weekend of Dutch Design Week, so you could spend the afternoon at the exhibitions at Strijp-S or in the city centre and finish the day with some blues rock.

For internationals

King King sing in English, the Effenaar staff speak English, and the crowd at blues rock shows is often international. If you have just moved to Eindhoven and love guitar music, this is an easy way to discover one of the city's best venues.

More guitar music this autumn

The autumn programme of the Effenaar is full of guitar bands. On Tuesday 20 October, two days after King King, the British duo Blood Red Shoes celebrate their twentieth anniversary in the same hall, and on 1 November Temples bring their psychedelic pop. See all music in Eindhoven.

Getting there

The Effenaar is at Dommelstraat 2, about five minutes' walk from Eindhoven Centraal, so it is easy to reach by train from anywhere in the Netherlands. Cyclists can use the bike parking at the station. Stratumseind and the city centre are around the corner for a drink or dinner before or after the show, and the Effenaar also has its own restaurant, where you can reserve a table.
