Snarky Puppy
Funk, jazz, soul, gospel, fusion and rock, all at once: that is Snarky Puppy. On Wednesday 28 April 2027 the American collective plays the Hertog Jan Zaal of the Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, presented by So What's Next, the jazz platform of the Muziekgebouw.
Who are Snarky Puppy?
Snarky Puppy is not a band in the usual sense, but a large collective of musicians from the United States, led by bassist and composer Michael League. The line-up changes from tour to tour, but the energy stays the same. The music moves easily between funk, rhythm and blues, hard rock, classic soul, modern gospel, fusion and jazz, with complex arrangements that still make you want to move. Snarky Puppy has won several Grammy Awards and is known worldwide for its live shows, in which top musicians push each other to new heights.
There is also a strong Dutch connection. Together with the Metropole Orkest, the famous Dutch orchestra for pop and jazz, Snarky Puppy recorded the Grammy-winning album Sylva. The two groups reunited in January 2025 for a new project, which led to the album Somni, released in November 2025. For Dutch fans, that makes Snarky Puppy almost a familiar face.
What to expect
A Snarky Puppy concert is a celebration of musicianship: long instrumental pieces, solos that make the audience cheer in the middle of a song, tight grooves and a band that clearly enjoys playing together. You don't need to be a jazz expert to enjoy it. If you like funk, soul or simply great musicians, this is one of the concerts of the season.
The Muziekgebouw describes the show as energetic funk, soul and jazz, and lists genres from big band and Latin to rock. In other words: expect the unexpected.
