DESCRIPTION:A raw voice\, an acoustic guitar and songs that sound like they were recorded in a Southern bar decades ago: on Thursday 12 November 2026\, Alabama singer-songwriter Early James plays Café Wilhelmina\, the intimate stage of the Effenaar. Who is Early James? Early James is an Americana singer-songwriter from Alabama in the American South. He got his first guitar at sixteen and soon started writing his own songs. His influences range from Johnny Cash to James Taylor\, and his music mixes blues\, rock and folk\, carried by a rough\, characterful voice that is impossible to forget once you have heard it. He was discovered by Dan Auerbach\, the singer and guitarist of The Black Keys\, who signed him to his record label. Auerbach also produced his 2025 studio album Medium Raw\, a record of twelve songs that mostly consists of just voice and guitar\, with now and then an upright bass and drums. That stripped-down sound puts the songs and the voice centre stage. Café Wilhelmina The concert takes place in Café Wilhelmina\, one of the smaller spaces of the Effenaar. For a singer-songwriter like Early James\, that is ideal: a small room where you hear every word and every guitar string\, and where artist and audience are only a few metres apart. Combine with GLOW. The concert falls in the middle of GLOW\, the free light art festival that runs until 23:00 every evening. Walk part of the route before the doors open. Have dinner first. The Effenaar's restaurant takes reservations\, and the city centre is close by. For whom? If you like The Black Keys in their quieter moments\, Johnny Cash\, Tyler Childers or other Americana\, Early James is worth discovering. His songs are about the South\, love and life's rough edges\, told with humour and grit. For internationals Early James sings in English\, of course\, and an intimate concert by an American singer-songwriter is an easy\, relaxed evening out for anyone new to Eindhoven. Getting there The Effenaar is at Dommelstraat 2\, about five minutes' walk from Eindhoven Centraal\, so it is easy to reach by train from anywhere in the Netherlands. Cyclists can use the bike parking at the station. Stratumseind and the city centre are around the corner for a drink or dinner before or after the show\, and the Effenaar also has its own restaurant\, where you can reserve a table.
