SUMMARY:Dutch Design Week 2026
LOCATION:Klokgebouw\, Klokgebouw 50\, Eindhoven
DESCRIPTION:For nine days in October\, Eindhoven becomes the design capital of northern Europe. Dutch Design Week (DDW) 2026 runs from Saturday 17 to Sunday 25 October\, with exhibitions\, installations\, talks and events at more than a hundred locations across the city. If there is one week to experience what makes Eindhoven special\, this is it. What is Dutch Design Week? DDW started in Eindhoven in 2002 and has grown into the largest design event in northern Europe. It is not a trade fair with stands and brochures\, but a festival of ideas. Designers from the Netherlands and abroad show their work in former factories\, studios\, galleries\, shops\, museums and on public squares. You will see prototypes\, experiments\, furniture\, fashion\, materials made from waste\, technology\, graphic design and installations that ask what design can do for the way we live\, eat\, travel and work together. What makes DDW different from many design fairs is that you can talk to the makers. Many designers are present at their own work and are happy to explain the thinking behind it. Students from the Design Academy Eindhoven\, the TU/e and art schools from across Europe show their work alongside established studios and big companies. Where to go The festival is spread over the whole city\, but there are a few main areas: Strijp-S: the former Philips factory site is the heart of DDW. The Klokgebouw holds dozens of exhibitions across its four halls\, from individual designers to group shows of schools and universities\, such as the annual Class of 26 exhibition. Around the Ketelhuisplein you will find installations\, food and drinks. The station area and the city centre: the graduation show of the Design Academy Eindhoven\, large installations on squares and in streets\, and many smaller locations. The museums: the Van Abbemuseum opens its new exhibition Museum as Sundial on the first day of DDW\, and the Philips Museum also takes part. Most locations are open daily from 11:00 to 18:00\, but some have different hours. The DDW app and the official programme on ddw.nl show the details for every location. Tickets Many DDW locations are free. For the biggest exhibitions\, such as the Klokgebouw and the graduation show\, you need a DDW ticket. You exchange your e-ticket once at a DDW ticket sales point for a personal wristband\, which is valid for all nine days. Regular ticket: €32.50. Students and young people aged 11 to 18: €19.50\, with a valid student card or ID. Children under 11: free. The wristband also gives access to the Design Rides\, the shuttle between the main locations. A few locations charge a separate fee per visit\; these are listed on ddw.nl. Group\, school and company tickets are available on invoice. Tips for your visit Pick your favourites. With more than a hundred locations you can't see everything. Choose five to eight things you really want to see and plan the rest around them. Go on a weekday. The weekends are the busiest. Tuesday to Thursday are calmer\, especially in the morning. Wear comfortable shoes. You will walk a lot\, often on concrete floors in old factory halls. Bring a bag for brochures and a water bottle. Most locations have coffee and food nearby\, but it gets busy at lunchtime. With children DDW is great with children. Children under 11 go free\, and the DDW Young programme offers designer routes for different ages. Many installations are interactive\, and the outdoor areas at Strijp-S give children space to run around. Getting there Leave your car at home if you can. Strijp-S has its own train station\, one stop from Eindhoven Centraal\, and many locations in the centre are within walking distance of the station. The bike is the fastest way to get around between locations. If you come by car\, use a P+R location on the edge of the city and take the bus. Language The official programme is available in English\, most designers and staff speak English\, and the exhibitions usually have English texts. DDW is one of the most international weeks of the year in Eindhoven. Read our practical guide to DDW 2026 for more tips\, and see everything else in the calendar for October 2026.
