SUMMARY:An Irish Christmas with Celtic Steps
LOCATION:Muziekgebouw Eindhoven\, Heuvel 140\, Eindhoven
DESCRIPTION:Irish dancing\, folk songs and Christmas classics in one evening: on Wednesday 16 December 2026\, the dance company Celtic Steps brings An Irish Christmas to the Hertog Jan Zaal of the Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. The show An Irish Christmas is a warm\, festive evening for anyone who loves Irish music and traditional dance. Sixteen dancers and musicians of Celtic Steps\, described as a Riverdance company\, fill the stage with fast footwork\, live music and songs. Frontman David Rea guides the audience through the evening. The programme alternates traditional Irish songs\, such as Oh Danny Boy\, Carrickfergus and Will Ye Go Lassie Go\, with Christmas classics such as Carol of the Bells and Silent Night. In between\, the dancers show the precise\, rhythmic style of Irish dance that became world-famous through shows like Riverdance: arms still\, feet flying. Irish dance in a nutshell Irish dance has deep roots in Irish culture\, from village gatherings to formal competitions. Its modern stage form\, with large groups dancing in perfect unison\, became a global phenomenon in the 1990s. The combination of hard shoes hitting the floor like percussion and live fiddles and pipes makes for an evening that is impressive to watch\, even if you have never seen Irish dancing before. Practical information Date: Wednesday 16 December 2026. Doors: 19:15. Start: 20:15. Hall: Hertog Jan Zaal\, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. Tickets: rank 1 €47\, rank 2 €39.50. Both include an interval drink. For whom? An Irish Christmas is a good choice for a festive evening out with family\, friends or colleagues. The Muziekgebouw does not give an age recommendation\, but dance shows with live music are usually enjoyed by older children as well as adults. The show is presented in English and the songs are sung in English\, which makes it an easy choice for international visitors. Tips for the evening Book early. Christmas shows are popular and sell well. Order your interval drink in advance at the bar. Make it a night out. The Christmas lights in the city centre and the restaurants around the Markt are a few minutes' walk away. Look at the feet. The speed of the footwork is easier to appreciate from seats with a good view of the stage floor. Christmas in the Muziekgebouw The evening before\, the Netherlands Bach Society performs Bach's Magnificat\, and on Sunday 20 December there is a pancake concert for young children. Earlier in the month\, on Saturday 12 December\, the free Winter Market fills the building with more than 80 stalls. For internationals Eindhoven has a sizeable Irish and British community\, and Christmas is a time when people miss the traditions of home. An evening of Irish songs and carols is a lovely way to share them with Dutch friends and colleagues. Getting there The Muziekgebouw Eindhoven is on the Heuvel in the city centre\, about a ten-minute walk from Eindhoven Centraal. The public entrance is at Heuvel 140. Car parks\, including the one under the Heuvel shopping centre\, and guarded bike parking are nearby. The restaurants around the Markt\, the Kleine Berg and the 18 Septemberplein are a few minutes' walk away. See all music in Eindhoven and the calendar for December 2026.
